I want to model an old car with wings but I don't know what is the best method, is it possible to work as surfaces with wings or is it better to make subdiv volumes (box modeling of the entire car)?

Box modelling , I model on half a car and then just use the mirror option to see the complete car .
It seems that you car is perfect? Why you model it again?
That was an Early stage of the design , only posted that to show
how I model a car .
Currently i'm at this stage with the design , I havn't done anything
for some time now as I needed a break due to health issues .
Hopefully in the coming weeks after my operation I will get back
into swing .
