Haven't you still tried Kerkythea?
For this kind of scene I'm sure it could be better to make the material/scene setup.
I also like POV-Ray, but when we need to do a fine tune to the scene, shadows, rearrange the camera location looking for a best shot and other small things it become much better work with it. Give it a try.
