I am following a tutorial, so must be doing it correctly (I referenced two different tutorials).

RMB --> Image Plane --> Select png file.

My plane comes in, but it does not show the image.

Go to View > Show > "Show Materials" and "Show Textures" needs to be checked.

Thank you, that did it. I had "Show Textures" checked but not "Show Materials".
