Hey, I'm new to this forum, but have been a long-time user (10+ years) of Wings3D. Recently I've been using it to design models for 3D printing. Here are some of my models. Most of the insects and crustaceans are articulated (they have posable joints) and are printed in one go through shapeways.com. You can click the link in my signature to see a few more models.
