Bevel Inaccuracy? - Geta-Ve - 11-23-2013

Not sure if this is an issue, or if I may be doing something wrong, but I've run into an issue where an object's middle edge doesnt want to bevel accurately on both sides. See attachment.

Geta-Ve, can you give us more detail about your object and procedures?

I tried a single face (a cube with X dim = 0; body mode, select and Cleanup) by connecting two opposites edges and bevelling the new one without any issue.

Hey micheus! Sorry dude, I'll compile a bit more information for you shortly and see if I can reproduce this from scratch. Smile

Oki doke, that wasn't hard at all. lol.

So, here are the steps -- v1.5.2

1. Make Cube
2. Pull one corner of verts on Z
3. Edge loop around the center
4. Bevel

See image for details.

Sorry about the delay...

Now I understood better the object - I was thinking it was in perspective. Smile

No, that is not wrong. Bevel is moving the new vertices to assure that the new edges have the same length.

You can use the Intersect command ([MMB option]) to move the top vertices and align them with the bottom ones.
or, for this specific case, you could select the minor and the greater faces and use Inset command (MMB option and set to [3] Avg Along Edges) to get the result you were expecting to get.

I was moving using tweak and with magnet radius, having hidden some faces to not get them affected (using standard left mouse button click only version of ".hide." command) . Was working in preview subdivided mode (shift + tab) . It was exactly while dragging, if I remember well.

Sorry maithly, but I didn't understand about what you are talking. Rolleyes

Hey micheus!

Thanks for getting back to me. I now understand what bevel is doing. Would it be possible to have bevel react in the way I was expecting? Sort of like an edge split + slide?

Even if it was a MMB/RMB bevel options.

Though your Inset workaround does work well, it is definitely not a solution for all instances of this.

Thank you regardless! Smile
