Animation in Wings - FlevasGR - 06-13-2014

Hello, i would like to make few animations in wings. Not an entire clip but few basic animations in some parts of my vehicle. Is it possible to have multiple animations and play the whatever animation i want? Also how do i animate?

FlevasGR, unfortunately Wings3d does not support animation.
People use to export the project for another format (usually) OBJ and load it into a animation software.

The only thing closest to "animation" in Wings3d you can do is rotate the camera around the object (turntable) and use a 3rd capture software for record the screen.

So, that is not something I can help much, but maybe this thread can help you to find a direction: OpenFX Modeling/Rendering/Animation Software

Maybe a freeware option: K-3D

Please don't waste your time on OpenFX and K-3D. Get Blender. It's the only thing that's free and can actually animate. (Sorry, micheus, I know you were trying to help.)

Nemyax,
I do not think it is fair to say that K-3D and OpenFX cannot animate. I know for a fact that OpenFX can animate. If you are saying that they are not very powerful compared to Blender that is very true... Smile Blender is harder to learn in my opinion.

Anim8or is another software that does animation... Anim8or Website

For a minimally comfortable animation workflow, you need a way to set keyframes, a dope sheet and a graph editor. I don't think OpenFX has either of the editors, and K-3D is just a long-running exercise in abstract coding.
Incidentally, Anim8or does have those tools.

nemyax,
OpenFx has the ability to set keyframes. It is called "Keyframer". It allows you to control "Costume", "Position", "Rotation", and "Size". Again, probably very limited in what it can do compared to Blender.

Yes, I was able to gather that much from fiddling with it and reading the manual. It's not really a matter of simple tools versus advanced tools (a dope sheet is not an airplane cockpit by far). It's a matter of making tools available for a person to build a workflow upon. A "keyframer" is not much of a workflow enabler.
To use a familiar analogy, it's like comparing working with 3D models in a text editor and in Wings. Wings is the clear winner even if you only ever use a couple of commands from it. Because they are the right commands.

I guess that explains why SoftF/X didn't make it as a Commercial product and why OpenFX isn't very popular as an Open Source product... Smile Sad

Wings3D doesn't support animation. If you want to animate models you made with wings, you should check out some of the software mentioned in this thread.
