Can't get texture to show up on my object - Arisen1 - 07-29-2014

Hey guys...first of all, I am very new to 3d modeling and uv mapping. Basically, I made a basic weapon model, and I had made it as two separate objects. Each object got its own uv map, and the uv maps worked perfectly....the texture showed up on both. Basically, I merged both objects together, and in the process, I also merged the uv maps, but somehow when I merged both of the uv maps as one, I have had trouble with getting the texture to project onto the object. It will export the UV map perfectly, but it doesn't actually update onto the object itself. What is it that I am doing wrong?

As reference, here are the files that I am working on.

If anyone can help, I would be so grateful. Smile

Try checking your material, by using "RMB>Edit Material" in the outliner. Make sure it has your texture in the diffuse. If it doesn't, use "RMB>Pick up image" on your texture and then use "RMB>Drop picked object" on your material and select "Diffuse".
Then, select your object in body mode and go "RMB>Assign to selection" on your material in the outliner.

EDIT: Also, make sure you're using a shader that can display textures, in case you changed it. Hemispherical Lighting works for this. Just though I should mention this, as I've made that very mistake in the past.

Hi Arisen1, welcome.

Well, I don't know what exactly you did, but something is really wrong. Smile
Looking into your file I saw two default materials (default and default2). That happens because your default material is different of mine. So, it's a good idea do not change the default material.

That said, it seems your default material was assigned to the object and then the previous textured material was deleted.

The object still preserves the UV mapping, so it's easy to assign a new material to it (select the whole object, in Face mode use the context option Material - RMB option) and then assign the image to it ("hammer texture.tga") - just drag and drop it over the new material you is going to create.

Occasionally, you would not see the texture applied to the object in the geometry window - if any View option was not intentionally disabled, maybe you can be experiencing a video card driver issue (very common, unfortunately) or it's just because you have used a kind of image that have a transparent channel (like tga or png):

Thanks guys. This is very helpful to me. I was finally able to get it to work, I changed the name of the default 2 texture, and just used it as my main texture, and then saved my texture as a png file, and then dragged it onto the diffuse. Somehow, it worked. Hopefully it will export into my other 3d programs without a hitch. Smile

Thanks again!
