Another quickie / eyeballing option

create the 3 'bars'

make the middle one much longer so it overlaps the 2 vertical bits (when viewed from correct axis - in ortho)

use plane cut to trim the end to correct angle
add edges on verticals and weld the lot.

Smile ...for the rest of this thread

Here is the best that I could come up with...

This utilizes the absolute snap command, which by my eyes looks like it should have done the job and kept the proper width of the inner column, but for some reason it ends up being just a hair over 2.0.

The second N that I show, as measurement reference was the same as the first, just all the pieces combined, so that I could draw an angle from each corner to measure the distance properly.

I am stumped.

@ppaul

I realize that, in the grand scheme of things, having things exact truly doesn't matter, and my initial reason for creating the N within Wings was silly to begin with, but by God, I will get this thing exact now!! lol

It has become a mission. And subsequently I have learned a boat load doing this. So there's that.

First of all, nice to see you used Edge|Intersect! Smile

That is because you used absolute snap command to make that lower edge coincide with the botton of right "bar"... At that moment you lost the paralelism of the middle "bar" edges...

And the problem i am having here is how to rotate the middle bar so that, after rotate, i can use Intersect to make the exact coincidence...

I am trying Rotate to Target command to solve this. I am not used to work with it: it seems very nice, but in this case i cant end the process. I am using Body|Rotate|Rotate to Target|Point A to Point B (lmb).

Please, Paul and Optigon: can you help me here?
Take a look at video. I selected rotation axis, center of rotation, and pick the left botton edge of object to be rotated as Point A and an the equivalent edge of right bar as Point B: it didnt work, "almost" worked...
Therefore (second tentative at same video), if i pick as Point A the right botton edge of object to be rotated (facing Point B), the result is PRECISE!

Where did i make a mistake??

edit: just remembering where all this began:
http://nendowingsmirai.yuku.com/topic/5765#.UL5LW7LdO3c

Really annoying... When i use Rotate to Scale (Point A to Point B) and define those points from faces centers, all worked fine (as you can see at the following video). But when i try (as the prior video) to define those points from edges, the is an specific case the result wasnt accurate...

Just to explain for those that can try it, keep Shift pressed to reach a value = 100%: at this moment, if the perfect alignment was not reached, dont interrupt the command, but hit [1] key (look at info line) to Flip Back the object (-100%). One of the both makes the trick.

Altough this isnt properly a off-topic, i preferred to open a new thread to talk about. And to create a opportunity to get help in studying this command.

Geta-Ve: why dont you make more and more videos??? It is so nice to see videos about wings here???

RE: Measurements - Need some help - Geta-Ve - 12-04-2012

@Fonte

Seems like you almost had it as well. Re my Absolute Snap attempt, As seen in the video both the bottom and top edge moves, so I assumed (obviously incorrectly) that they moved together in parallel. :O I shall have to investigate further. I will play around with the Rot to Targ command also.

Furthermore, I dunno why I don't make more videos. lol. I should! Biggrin

They did, but not the other extremity equivalent ones: so the width will vary along the object. Wink

RE: Measurements - Need some help - Geta-Ve - 12-04-2012

I am not sure I understand. Check out this video. From what I see here it would seem to me that Intersect is at issue, not Abs Snap.

RE: Measurements - Need some help - Fonte Boa - 12-05-2012

There is no Intersect issue, Geta (unfortunately at the notebook i'm typing now there is no capture video app). Get the transversal piece you've adjusted with Snap for about 3'10", select those edges you used during Intersect, Cut them by 2 and Connect the resultant verts, and measure them: you'll see their lenghts vary. This is consequence of that "unilateral" Snap operation.

I'll try to rec a video tomorrow, if you need.

ps: great, great, great to see you record these videos! Keep on! Smile Smile

RE: Measurements - Need some help - Geta-Ve - 12-05-2012

@Fonte

I dunno man. I have just remeasured everything, and unless I am completely misunderstanding what you are telling me, all the edges equal up (to themselves that is). Check it out.

I apologize, I am probably just not understanding you correctly. Tongue I can be quite dumb sometimes. lol

RE: Measurements - Need some help - Fonte Boa - 12-05-2012

Good morning, Geta.

Here it is the proof after that Snap operation the sections of transversal piece arent equal. Cool
