Moulding a shape around another without them merging together - Propmaker - 10-23-2014

I’d just like to introduce myself as a new member on the forum (I have been using Wings 3D now for a while so thought it about time I signed up).

I have a modelling query which hopefully is a simple query for someone to assist with.

I am looking in to a model where I need to have 2 shapes that currently pass through each other and would like to know if it is possible to cut the profile of one to match that of the other (Whilst keeping the 2 objects as separate objects).

As an example to explain hopefully a little clearer the principle I am looking at please imagine the following: -

1) I create a cube measuring 2x2x2.
2) I than create a cylinder 5 long with a diameter of 2.
3) I position the cylinder so that half of the diameter of the cylinder passes through the cube (The other half of the cylinder being outside the profile of the cube).
4) Can I notch/cut the profile of the cube to the outside of the cylinder whilst keeping both objects as separate objects ?
5) The result I am looking for would be to have a 5 long cylinder with a diameter of 2 and a cube with a curved ‘trench’ cut through it if I then separate the 2 objects.

I believe you are looking for booleana operations. Please check this post for info about how to get it: http://www.wings3d.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=884&pid=5428#pid5428

Sorry about the short answer. I'm using the smartphone.

Thanks very much for your response.

I will take a look and see if it is what I am looking for.
