Nice start. For human figures ... I don't think I'd ever start with polygons again. Well ... maybe the very rough skeleton in polygons. But then I'd advocate 3DCoat for roughing in next level of detail (abs, skin folds, all these hard things). You could always do a retopo if you wanted to get back to polygons.
Anyway ... enjoy the crafting/creative process !

Excellent work! It's interesting to see the steps of the creation of this beautiful monument.
Great job, good work and fascinating story behind it's disappearance,
I had to go and find some original photos. I wonder if it was a bronze statue and went missing after ww2 then the metal value alone would have been an inducement to acquire it. and not for its artistic and historical value. http://wikimapia.org/17401281/pl/Dawne-m...to/1347744
