Slide vs (Dup loop and slide) ...

Is it correct that there is no DUP loop part to the slide workflow ? We have to select the loop first and have a "copy" of it ... persumably at some offset distance first ... before invoking slide ?

Sorry ... have not been sliding very much lately ... so I feel out of touch.

If the Dup part is "MISSING" ... are there any advocates out there for rolling it into the slide ?

If i understood right, this is a very old (and super useful if implemented) Puzzledpaul request: a way to select two edge loops and Slide them in oposite directions. It should be just a Slide variation (mmb or rmb)...

No ... I don't want to just SLIDE ... presumably ... many people want to slide an additional loop to add some definition. But how to you get the additional loop to begin with ?

Is there a duplicate for partial edge-loops ?

I think BEVEL would do something odd ... at the verts that would mess with the intended workflow.

Bevel isn't the way to go indeed.
Right now, on a partial loop, the closest way (both in modeling workflow and, probably, in erlang code) in Wings3D to get this "loop offset" (as maya calls this very function, as suggested in the first post), is to do an edge extrusion and just changing the % value of the added parallel edges without adjusting the D(istance) of course. Then a bit of cleanup on the partial loops ends. A bevel would imply more cleanup, without the benefit of keeping the original, "central" loop. So, an offset/duplicate loops command would just be like an edge extrusion command without the Distance input, basically.

btw, I second FB and PP suggestion for a "pinch" option in the slid command, to either get closer together OR conversely slide appart multiple loops, that would be a nice addition too.

I think you can use Crease for this task without "bump" the original "partial edge loop".

Isn't this basically what Inset does already? and inset is nice, but is terrible on UV's. In that case it's better to just add the edge-loop, then slide it into place ....

Imo, the simplest way of creating a dupe partial eloop is to select relevant edges then use either

Edge > Bevel > 0 for a single extra edge sequence
or
Edge > Extrude > Normal > 0 for extra edges on either side of the selected geom (no bump)

To select the duped edges (*in a 100% guaranteed manner Smile) select the adjacent faces on the relevant side that sliding will take place, convert to edge selection, deselect unwanted edges ... and use slide.

Body | Cleanup seems to sort out the unwanted stuff ... provided the original edges aren't modified.

Yes, I'd have thought a dupe option for slide would be useful ... trying to remember whether the Clacos plug of many yrsago had this dupe feature ... but memory fails me atm.

Big issue (imo) re implementation is how to tell wings what side of the original edges user wishes to slide the dupe ... and select those relevant edges.

Various approaches would, no doubt, surface if there's any serious possibility of this being added ...

Yes, was me that originally raised the simultaneous 'pinch / expand' option of a pair of eloops (one either side of a 'main' one) ... I'd been adding control eloops to the trailing edge of an aircraft wing ... and such a feature would've been useful.
