Polygon count variation between body and face mode

As the title suggests, I am finding a variation in the polygon count when in Face selection mode and Body selection mode.

For instance, Body mode will report 915 polygons, whereas Face mode will report 868.

The only thing I can think of that may be messing with the numbers are the fact that I have a lot of Holes in the model.

However, my edge and vertice count stays the same.

Unfortunately I can not share the model as it is under NDA from my client.
