That is not the correct behaviour. Any chance you had coloured your mesh using vertex colour and after that UVmapped it?
If so, is there any chance your material has the Vertex Color property set to Multiply?

Not sure how this happened, I haven't tried UVmapping on this ship, though perhaps I had on one of the ships the pieces came from.

At any rate, as I said, exporting to OBJ and importing seems to have cleared up a number of things.

Wow. Looking back at this I hardly remember all the trouble that model gave me. It's been a while, the computer I was using at the time died and I have had to wait to have funds to buy another good enough to do this stuff again.

I'll have to bookmark this thread and look back at it for reference.
