Virtual 3d to Physical 3d...
Attached is a screen shot of a card model I designed in Wings. I used the UV mapping tools to 'unfold' the geometry and wrote a Ruby script to extract the UVs and save them as SVG which I then edited in Inkscape to add the graphics. This is a model of an early passenger Zeppelin named 'Sachsen'. It ends up being a 1/250th scale model.
The geometry was kept simple (which is appropriate for card modeling) so I could test the work flow. Wings is 'almost there' in terms of being a great tool for card modelers. So it's prompted me to finally learn something about Wings plug-ins and how to make them so I can cut out the Ruby component. A lot of card modelers are using Sketchup and Blender to do this but life would be so much easier in Wings. Well... almost! --jeff |

Hi,kugelfang,It is wonderful!!
You good expressed the beam of the airship well. It would be very useful if automatically generate a glue margin in a script. There is definitely a demand for paper model. Previously ,I have created a paper model of the Wings logo. |
