(closed) 2.1.7 unexpected mid-process error
Interesting little bug that sometimes occurs, I'm not quite sure how to describe the effects, so I will describe how to reproduce it simply:

Create two cubes (feel free to move one so you can see both)
Select a face of one cube
Right click, Put On
Now, deselect (space), or right click in empty space

An error is produced, and the face never properly deselects. Let me know if you need an error log, but this is so easy to reproduce I suspect not.

I think the issue is already solved => PUT ON

Make sure all the patches are up to date.

Right you are, Hank. That fixes it.

Seems I wasn't deep enough in the forum (my organization structure is new things out front, archives in subfolders).

micheus, all patches applied, everything working great again. It was only a minor annoyance, but good to not have to deal with it.
