Problem with unfolding
Hello modelers, i was making a model and ad i was readt to set the um map the following hapened to me:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lgphgjfrcp2laj...-06-44.png

The top, the sides and the bottom of the table were messed up together and i cant work with this.
Is there any way to fix it? I know i can just create a new map but i dont wanna mark the edges again.
Thanks for your time.

RE: Problem with unfolding
Hi FlevsGR, that is related to the way you cut(or not cut) your mesh for mapping.
It's something complicated to explain by writing, but you can find some videos on YouTube showing that. Search in the google for: wings3d up mapping tutorial
The first one talk about your issue too.

RE: Problem with unfolding
The for replying micheus.
Its safe to say tham im experienced with cuting. I've done it many times before and most of them i had to do it again due to this problem. It seems like i didnt cut an edge.
As you can see from the image: https://db.tt/ncsMvrQ1 this model has few hidden corners. I will try to brake the textures in to many different .png files. Is it okay to do it? Imean im not gonna cause problem with 5-6 images right?

RE: Problem with unfolding
you are able to change the UV-Map in the UV-Editor.

select some edges and choose "CUT" and you are can separate some faces.

if you have separated a bunch of faces you have two options:
- while the face is selected (in face-mode) you can choose the command "Project-Unfold"
- while in object-mode you can choose a separated face
or a bunch of separated (connected) faces (also called UV-Islands or UV-Shells) and
choose the command "ReMap-UV"

now, you are able to combine single faces (or a bunch of connected faces / UV-Islands/ UV-Shells)
to each other with the command "Stitch" in the edge-mode (select a edge an choose "Stitch").

the best way is to start with a trouble-free unfolding, which you can achive by
selecting the right edges and mark them for cut before you unfold the uv-map.

as Micheus mentioned, take a look at some youtube UV-Tutorials.
there are less tutorials about unwrapping UV´s in Wings3d ...but no problem, you can
also watch Blender-UV-Unwrap tutorials and to learn how it works.

here i found a Wings3D-UV-Tutorial on youtube made by youtube-user Age of Armour

RE: Problem with unfolding
As Arg Arg mentions, you can remap the UV's once you've already done it once. If I have an object that is complicated to unfold, one approach is to use projection, then stitch the parts you want together. Once you have the UV island you need, go "Re-Map UV> Unfold".

Sorry about not link the video directly before. I was answering you from my wife's tablet and I hate it for that. Smile
The first video you should find using those words should be the one linked by Arg Arg. It's one the best I think - if you can watch both (part 1 and 2).

It seems that. It's an unusual behaviour. I didn't read anything about that here before.

I'll not have problem with the image amount. At least if you use one for each object.
Wings3d seems to expect you use one UVmapped texture for each object. So, starting from multiples textures and join them is easier (and you will see how to do this in that videos), but having one object break it in many textured materials I'm not sure.
I already did that, but with some "hard" work. Anyway, I'm not a expert, so I can have missing something to run that operation. Maybe any of our other colleagues here can help with this. Let listen them about that. Smile

RE: Problem with unfolding
Thanks for your help guys. I did the UV maping again with many more cuts and the map is much more cleaner ( https://www.dropbox.com/s/40xqgrgaw8ut2vl/base.png )

You can take a look at my model here: https://sketchfab.com/models/df911ce83e3...54b2458682
