Could you make an option to override "Collapsing would cause inconsistent object structure" ?

I would like inconsistent object structure mesh.
I'm not sure I have ever even seen that message.

I've seen a similar one about dissolving.

Unfortunately ... the message is not a JOKE. It means that the entire WEDS table is dead ... if the operation is allowed. Hence ... the message.

There can be no option to OVERRIDE.

Why don't you share with me the model, selection and the operation you want to do ... and I'll show you what you should do INSTEAD.
Smoothing collapsed mesh, you can get a new one.
I've stored in selection the edges I want to collapse. Rightclick->Collapse

Why not use a dissolve all ?

What will the collapse BUY for you ?

Actually ... just looking at the object the way you have it rigged ... using collapse seems counter-intuitive on a purely visual ... speculative level. Dissolve all the selected edges. Select new isolated vertices. Dissolve them.

Is this not what you need at the modelling level ?

Dissolving won't change the topology of the mesh while collapsing will.
That is the reason, to change the topology.
Show us how the same exact collapse would behave in another application ... in a way that you want.

If we can't imagine the result ... it's hard to pitch in and discuss in a meaningful way (hard for me anyways).

I don't know that. I imagine that collapse will delete some of the edges and some will get connected in a interesting way with the center.
Smoothing it out will show the topology of the mesh.
When I try to imagine what it would mean to collapse all those edges, I invariably see something pathological happening. I wish you could just take a portion of the model and think about what collapse means and does ... and then by-hand do the transformation you wish by collapsing a few edges at a time to get your result.
