Full Version: UV Mapping Cylindrical Objects

When I am unfolding cylindrical objects I frequently run into this situation.
the tops of my cylinder segments make uniform trapezoids and when I segment them for unfolding, they are all 22.5 degrees rotated from one another.

I frequently want to map them all (or most of them) to a single spot on the UV map, so I'd like them to unwrap all to the same orientation, like /___\.

it would be cool if I could
- select one
- (i) to get them all
- right-click, "match orientation" to rotate them all to the same orientation, or...
- right-click "overlay" to orient them the same and fix them to one another.

I know this would be a headache if the user has selected some 3. 4. and 5 vertex faces, but maybe we could trap for that somehow.

I have spent many hours doing this manually over the years.

Would anyone else like this feature?

some_yahoo, I think that can be achieved depending on how you cut the mesh:

Do tell.

Isn't the bottom map in the AutoUV what you are looking for?
Do you need I explain how I got it? It's simple, just note the cut I did in the AutoUV Segmenting window (left in the image)
