There is a dgud's comment about some of this issues in this post

Notice that the menu and toolbar are now used for the focused window. So, the buttons must to represent the current focused window status. You also can use the hotkeys.
Hi Micheus,

Thanks for the quick response. I thought all ready that it works this way. Only I Can not find in the Vieuw menu , show /hide background for the UV editerwindow to chance the background to whiteBlush. Will you tell me how to.

Thanks Jan
Not possible at the moment, you can render texture with only a background that is white.
Hi dgud,

My problem is to explain in good Enlish, the screenshot show wat I meam. In V 1.5.4 it wash possible to chance the UV editor window background to white.

Grtz. Jan
Im sure he understood.
What he means is you can use the context menu option (create texture) to create a texture using the background colour white.
After that the ABCD image will be replaced by a white one and you can continue editing your UV meshes.
I misunderstood sorry and thanks for great help.

Grtz, Jan
To change the UV Editor background to white:

After uvmapping an object

1. Open Outliner window
2. In "Materials", expand the object_auv to see auvBG
3. RMB click on auvBG and click on "Remove Texture"
4. In "Images", RMB click on auvBG and click on "Delete"

It is all: UV Editor background is now white!

----------------

I agree it was very useful the old command Show/Hide Background Image...

To change the UV Editor background to another image:
(After uvmapping an object)

1. Open Outliner window
2. File | Import Image, pick any image: it will appear in "Images" session in Outliner
3. In Outliner windows, pick the imported image, drag and drop it over the object_auv

It is all.
Thanks for great help Fonte Boa
