materials no more editable - Antonio.A - 10-11-2025

Hi all!

My environment:
OS: Windows 10 Home
RAM: 8 GB
renderers: YafaRay and PovRay

Problem:
  • Before installing Yafaray and/or PovRay, editing existing materials was OK.
  • After install YafaRay, I tried to render with it with disappointing results, after that I installed PovRay.
  • Rendering with PovRay produced a little better results with simple models, while complex models with transparent complex parts are always black (I certainly have to tune PovRay rendering).
  • In a existing model, as soon I select a surface and center-click to edit the material, after 4-6 s the application shut down.
  • The same behaviour occurs if I create a new scene with a simple cube and select a face to create a new material.

What can I do?
Thank you in advance.

Hi Antonio.A
for these items:

It sounds you didn't set the Material for Yafaray or POV-Ray and the renders were using the Wings3D material with default settings.
Note that in Material dialog you need to choose the proper render plugin in Plugins->Available and then use the button Edit Property...

You may want to take a look at the Renders Tips session on Off Topic.
In the Design & Development->YafaRay Plugin you can also find some good information.
In the Design & Development->POV-Ray from the linked post on you can find some useful information too.

For the other items you have pointed I will need to take a look if I can reproduce them. Mean while, try to use the Outliner window to Edit and Create materials (you can assign it to the select object by using the context menu for the selected material).
