I'm wondering if this just me, some combo of gfx card/driver etc or if everyone gets this.. Someone take a min to test?
Happened to me last night while modeling a lamp shade thingy out of a half sphere, but here's a simple way I found to recreate it
Note if I save before the final step, load the model back in and THEN try the last step everything works fine
I closed Erlang when this happened to me with the lamp and rebuilt it later thinking I had no choice, but I notice now there's a simple way to recover from this actually Just restore/maximize the W3D window (simply minimizing, then maximizing won't fix it).. this seems to force the window to wake up 'n redraw. (Tho the glitchyness remains, and if you try the last step again it will once again freeze.. have to save/load to perma-fix the model)

- Make a Octahedron
- Select all it's Edges and Bevel them some
- Create & Assign new material to the resulting highlighted faces, e.g Mat2
- Now Extrude > Normal them a bit
- Among the selected polys will be six perfect rectangle-shaped end point polys, selecting only these six and Colapse them
- Switch to Edge mode
- Go to Outliner window, Right click on Mat2 > Select
