The value entered for the Z-displacement is treated as a Y-displacement.

Thanks for report it ekolis.
But, what I experienced was the object moving along the "view" axis instead of default axis. If you pay attention the object moving in the z axis is coming to and far from your screen. (wings3d_1.5.pre1.74.g2aee/wings3d_1.5.pre1.78.gdd6c)
I think that it's the correct behaviour since that is what you can do using the mouse.

Micheus is right, the movement for this tool is screen relative.
For numeric xyz moves, you can use absolute commands.

Oh, thanks! Is there a "duplicate absolute" command or do I have to duplicate the object in place, then move it?

Yes, you should use the option Duplicate - maybe with the Free option in the sub-menu. Then, before you press the RMB you can press the [TAB] key to enter the placement from origin.
